It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. Dad passed away on March 4, 2018 after a courageous three year battle with cancer. Dad was one of a kind. His humour and laughter lit up a room. He was once described as the definition of kindness and a true gentleman. If you didn’t know dad, once you met him, you knew you had a forever friend. He made everyone feel special. His larger than life love was for family first, then the sport he loved so dearly, hockey, but we all knew not to call him during a Canuck’s game. Sunday night dinners were his favourite. He would sit at the head of the table and shoot the breeze with a cold beer in his hand.
Dad was predeceased by his wife of 50 years, Marlean, in 2007 and his daughter Lynn in 1993. He is survived by his children and grandchildren; Kim (Ralph), Cheryl, Julie, Brad (Rosa), Justin, Alison, Brendan and Cindy, as well as his four remaining siblings Jim, Marie, Barb, Jack and their spouses. His loss is also felt profoundly by his extended family in Eastern Canada.
The family sends heartfelt thanks to Dr. A. Avanessian for his kindness and care and for giving us the past three years with our dad. As well, a special thanks to Karen and Julie, his chemo nurses, for making his treatments bearable. He actually looked forward to seeing them and keep the two of them on their toes. Finally, to Dr. I. Hughan and Craig we are forever grateful for your outstanding care of dad over the years, as well as for the kindness you showed to our family during his final days.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday May 29, 2018 at the Seymour Golf and Country Club on Mt. Seymour Parkway, North Vancouver from 1:00-4:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Lions Gate Hospital Foundation or the BC Cancer Agency.
