Phil was born July 3, 1942 in Vancouver, and built several close, life-long friendships during his formative years at General Wolfe School and King Edward High School. He completed his B.A.Sc. (1965) and M.A.Sc. (1970) in metallurgy at UBC, and became a pillar of Canada's engineering profession through his long consulting career and many years of volunteer service with Engineers and Geoscientists BC (President 1999-2000) and Engineers Canada. Phil was also a very active and devoted member of the Anglican community, serving as an active member of the parishes of St. Clement's and St. Catherine's. For his service to the Anglican community he received the Order of the Diocese of New Westminster in 2012. A dedicated volunteer and leader, Phil also served for several years as a director and President of the BC Council for Families. In addition to his career, faith and volunteer leadership, Phil's many passions included trains and model railroading, reading, photography, music, politics, playing hockey and curling.
Phil was a devoted and loving husband to Nancy for over 52 years and father to Colwyn, Andrea and Robert and grandfather to Nils, Soren, Anders, Nicolas and Sophia, who survive him. Phil is predeceased by his parents Peter and Winnifred, and is also survived by his sister Linda.
