Robert Clayton Sarsfield, beloved father and friend to many, passed away on November 16, 2023, in Vancouver, British Columbia. He was born on April 7, 1942 in Brandon, Manitoba. Robert, known to everyone as Bob, was a man who loved deeply and left a lasting impact on those who had the privilege of knowing him.
Bob was a brilliant and compassionate individual who possessed an exceptional creative talent. Identified as a protégé at the tender age of 7 in Regina, Saskatchewan where he grew up, Bob received classical and opera training which eventually led him to be invited to train at Toronto’s Conservatory of Music. His remarkable singing voice, described by many as otherworldly, led him to perform to large groups countless times, including performing the Canadian National Anthem at numerous Saskatchewan Rough Riders games and other high-profile sporting events. Bob's talent also extended to the theatrical stage, where he made exceptional contributions to musicals such as "Man of La Mancha" and "My Fair Lady," among others.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Bob's true essence shone through his kindness and generosity. He possessed a rare ability to see the good in every person, regardless of their circumstances. Many sought solace in his large apartment on The West Mall in Etobicoke, which became a refuge for those facing challenging times. Bob's love for animals, particularly dogs, was evident in the obvious and unconditional love they returned to him. Even as he faced his own battles, including a series of strokes that impacted his ability to move and speak, Bob's loving energy continued to radiate through his eyes, his primary means of communication.
Most of all, Bob cherished his family deeply, and they will continue to cherish and remember him. He taught his children, Jeffrey and Jennifer, about the importance of unconditional love and compassion. A highlight of his life near its end was meeting his firstborn, son, Daniel, which gave him great peace. He loved his wife, Sherrin profoundly throughout his entire life. While their marriage ended after 19 years, their deep bond endured.
A private Celebration of Life will be held in Toronto, bringing together Bob's family and close friends to honor his memory. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests contributions be made to "Helping Homeless Pets," a cause that combines his love for animals with helping those less fortunate.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.firstmemorialnorthvancouver.com for the Sarsfield family.
