September 17, 1972 - August 21, 2019
Our lovely Cali left us at 8:55pm on August 21st 2019 in Evergreen House North Vancouver, with her husband Alex, Aunt Louise and friend Lynda by her side. Cali was born on September 17th 1972 in the small town of Hills in the Kootenays, a place she held dear her entire life. Cali studied English Literature at Simon Fraser University and graduated with her BA with pride.
On one of her worldly travels in the fall of September 1997, she met her future husband Alex in Greece on the small island of Folegandros. They got married September 11th 2001 in Germany.
Six years later, in August 2007, she was diagnosed with Huntington's Disease a battle she took on very bravely. Cali took this diagnosis in stride, did her own research on Huntington's and never complained about the changes it caused in her life. A gift she gave us all; the power to have hope and gratitude amongst lifes greatest trials.
Cali will be remembered for her kindness and strength, her love of nature, and was known for her long walks while living in Canada and Europe. Poetry was her greatest passion, leaving us with hundreds of powerful poems, which are a reflection of her life's journey. She took great pride in having several poems published in numerous publications. Cali also had a passion for painting and drawing and we are grateful for these images of her souls reflection. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
Cali is survived by her Husband Alex, Mother Petra, Sister Celeste, Brother Gabriel, Stepmother Linda, Aunts Louise, Toni and Kate and Uncles Mathew, Dominik and their families. Cali was predeceased by her father John Kragen. Her family and friends would like to acknowledge her husband Alex for his loving care of our sweet Cali for the last 12 years. A journey taken together with great devotion and unconditional love. Her family also wish to thank the staff at Evergreen House in North Vancover for their loving care over the last 5 years.
We wish you an eternal Christmas Calico with all the gifts of love and life you deserve.
Her ashes will be spread amongst some of her favorite places and a celebration of her life will be held at a later date. In memory of Cali, donations can be made to Huntington's research at UBC.
