After a fall and health complications, Sheila spent a month in the hospital and died peacefully at the hospice.
Born and raised in Ottawa, she attended Queen's University and became a teacher. She met the love of her life, Bill, when she went to McGill for the weekend with friends. They were married in 1954 and settled in Vancouver. They had two daughters, Jennifer and Robin. Their favourite place was their handmade home on Eagle Island where they spent many happy years and hosted all kinds of celebrations including an annual swim around the island.
Sheila loved going for lunch with friends and often chose her main course after selecting her dessert. She enjoyed having people for dinner and listening to their stories. She showed her affection by baking cookies, sending handwritten cards and making phone calls. She had a large circle of friends and was always connecting with new people. North Shore Alliance Church was a big part of her life.
She will be greatly missed by Jennifer (and her partner Craig), Robin (and her husband Regan), granddaughters Sara and Heather, sister Louise, niece Anne (and her partner Steve), great nephew Sebastian (and his partner Jo), and nieces and nephews across Canada and in England. Thanks to everyone who helped her to stay in her townhouse, including neighbours and friends who visited often and did lots of projects.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to The Nature Trust of BC or Covenant House. A Celebration of Life will be held January 22 at NS Alliance Church. At Sheila’s request, please wear bright colours.
