We are sad to announce the passing of Soren Sjoblom on April 22nd, 2024. Dad was surrounded with family and friends as he passed peacefully Monday at the home he
built on Baycrest Drive in North Vancouver.
Soren was born in Norrtälje, Sweden. His parents were Samuel Sjoblom (a piano tuner) and Beda Sjoblom (a homemaker). He grew up in the house his grandfather (a Sea Captain) built that was affectionately named "Lilla Frisco." Dad spoke warmly of his home in Norrtälje and growing up on the coast of Sweden. As a young adult he moved to Stockholm where he met his future wife, Anita. Soren left for Toronto, Canada in 1959. He didn’t stay there long, but moved west to Sointula on Vancouver Island. Anita and their first child arrived in Sointula soon after. Together, they finally settled in North Vancouver in the house Soren built in 1967. This is where they raised their four children: Peter, Michael, Katarina, and David. Mom and Dad had four children, ten grandchildren, and three great grandchildren. Dad loved to spend time with all his grandchildren filling their imaginations with elaborate storytelling and built some impressive play forts for them!
Soren was a carpenter for most of his life. He had a very good reputation as a carpenter. He built many houses and his work was in demand. Dad’s other favorite pastime was singing. He sang for many years with the Bellman choir as well as the Barber Shop Singers. He sang right up to his final month.
The morning Dad passed he spoke and laughed with three of his children, eight of his grandchildren and a few friends. Dad influenced many people through his singing and carpentry as well as his role as a father, grandfather, and friend.
We miss him very much.
