Our beloved wife, mother, aunt and Nana passed away peacefully at home on March 24, 2020, surrounded by her family and much love. She was the heart of our family and will be missed terribly, but we are grateful her suffering from Creutzfeldt-Jakob’s disease (variant form) has ended, and she could choose to leave this life on her own terms, with dignity and grace. Ruth was the loving wife of Roger for 49 years, mother of Caroline and Darrell, and aunt to Jennifer, Heather (Pat), David (Jennifer), and Ross. Ruth especially loved being Nana and special Great-Aunt to Thomas and Olivia, Katelyn (Aaron), Sarah, and Alex; Samantha, Kayla, and Joey (Sarah) and his daughter Harper, and Emily and Ali; sister-in-law to Rita and aunt of Jamie and Jonathan. Ruth was a great friend to many, and loved her Thornhill United Church community, scrapbooking friends, and trailer neighbours at Almaguin Parklands Campground. Ruth graduated from Guelph General Hospital School of Nursing in 1969, and devoted her life to the care of others. She fostered the love and respect of her nursing school classmates and colleagues, many of whom became dear friends, over her career at VON, CNIB, York Region and Unionville Homes Society. Ruth had a generous nature and loved to laugh! A celebration of her life will take place at a later date, after COVID-19. In recognition of her lifelong membership and involvement at Thornhill United Church, and of her parents before her, the family requests donations to the church be made in Ruth’s name, in lieu of flowers.
