Annie Mae is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 46 years, Frank Lewis Redd; her parents, Pervie and Dessie Robertson; brother, James Robertson; sister, Icie B. Pearson; sons, Frank H. Redd and William Redd; grandchildren, Jason Corkerin and Annie R. Connor; and sons-in-law, Jerry Connor and Mike Lambert.
Annie Mae is survived by her children. Kim R. Connor (Daniel Thody) of Jackson, Mich.; Jerry Redd (Renee), Kay Lambert, Gwen Malone (Robert), and Connie Burt, all of Coker, Ala.; daughter-in-law, Carol Redd; brother, Archie Robertson (Linda); and sister-in-law, Betty Robertson, as well as a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Annie Mae was born in Echola and called Tuscaloosa County home all her life. She married the love of her life in 1963 and at age 24 became step-mom to six children and, in time, mother to her greatest treasure, Kim. Later she became “Mamaw” or “Grandma” to 16 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren, and 15 great-great-grandchildren, and “Aunt Annie Mae” to many nieces and nephews. She adored babies and children and provided shelter, prayers, tender guidance, and banana pudding to generations of family.
Annie Mae loved being outdoors, tending her colorful flowers and vegetable garden, and worked for many years at Pinion’s Greenhouse in Northport. Her home was often full of visitors, laughter, and the sound of kids running in and out letting the screen door slam, despite her ever-patient reminders. She had a joy for cooking, especially her famous chocolate and coconut pies, and made sure anyone who came to her house was well fed and always invited to stay a while longer or “y’all might as well just spend the night.” She’d even lend you a nightgown. You also might be recruited to help shell peas or snap green beans while sitting on the porch swing.
Later in life, Annie Mae moved to Michigan with her daughter Kim and developed close loving relationships with more grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and friends. She kept her house in Alabama so she could come back for frequent visits, and every time she came home, the house filled with family and friends eager to “set a spell” and catch up.
Annie Mae and her husband Frank were devoted long-time members of Bethany Baptist Church in Coker, where they worshipped the Lord and made many dear friends through the years. Annie Mae is now reunited with Frank in heaven, rejoicing and safe in the arms of Jesus.
