Mr. Nichols is survived by his wife of 57 years, Mary Ruth Tompkins Nichols of Duncanville; daughter, Karen Britain of Duncanville; son, David Nichols of Moody; sisters, Sarah Rodgers (Tim) of Berry, Alice Shirley (Mike) of Gordo, Marguerite Essex of Portland, Oregon; brothers, Phelan Nichols (Jan) of Grand Ridge, Fla and Daniel Nichols (Karen) of Jacksonville, Fla; grandchildren, Blake Nichols (Michelle), Blaine Nichols (Brantley), Sandra Rhine (John) and Beth Overby (Michael).
For many years, Mr. Nichols served as a Police Officer for the University of Alabama Police Department. After leaving the University, he started D and M Gutter and Siding Company which he owned and operated for many years before retirement.
In his spare time, Mr. Nichols enjoyed bowling,
Square dancing and motorcycle riding.
Funeral services will be held Friday, July 6, 2018 from the Chapel of Sunset Funeral Home with burial
to follow in Flatwoods Community Cemetery near Berry, Ala. Visitation for Mr. Nichols will be held at Sunset Funeral Home from 1:00pm until the service time.
Sunset Funeral Home, a Dignity Memorial Provider, is in charge of arrangements.
