Donald Eric Richardson

Donald Eric Richardson, age 55, of Northport, died Nov. 2, 2012, at St Vincent’s Hospital in Birmingham. Services will be 2 p.m. today at Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Albert Lyles officiating. Burial will follow in Flatwoods Baptist Church Cemetery with Sunset Funeral Home, a Dignity Memorial Provider, directing. The body will lie in state one hour prior to services at the funeral home.

He was preceded in death by his father, James M. Richardson; and his brother, Gary Lo Richardson.

Survivors include his brothers, Ken Richardson (Rita) and Mike Richardson (Donna); mother, Sara Richardson; sister-in-law, Kennetha Richardson; and special niece, Shea Wright.

Don was a 1975 graduate at Tuscaloosa County High School and a 35 year employee of The Westervelt Company, formerly known as Gulf States. Done was raised in the Flatwoods community and had a host of friends who loved him dearly. Don’s loving devotion to his mother could never be matched. He was an avid Alabama fan and enjoyed watching the games with friends. Don loved his nieces and nephews and was known as everyone’s favorite. Uncle Don will be greatly missed and remembered for his loving and giving spirit.

Pallbearers will be his nephews, Rob Richardson, Todd Richardson, Nick Richardson, Hunter Richardson, Chris Wright, and Logan Wright.

Honorary pallbearers are Gerald Causey, Tony Causey, Seth Johnson, Dale Rowland, Joe Bridges, Ricky McGee, past and present employees of The Westervelt Company/Gulf States Paper, and all friends and neighbors of the Flatwoods community.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Hospice of West Alabama or one’s favorite charity.
