

Edith W. Coatney, age 82, of Tuscaloosa, died Dec. 31, 2011, at Morning Pointe Assisted Living. Services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Chris Barnett officiating. Burial will follow in Pate Cemetery in Buhl with Sunset Funeral Home, a Dignity Memorial Provider, directing. Visitation will be Tuesday from 11 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 28 years, Vearl Ky Coatney; son, Sammy Ky Coatney; brother, Charles W. Warmack; and aunt, Gladys B. Miller.
Survivors include her Beloved daughter, Shirley C. Adams (Buddy) of Tuscaloosa; brother, Tharon Warmack (Dorothy) of Tuscaloosa; Treasured grandchildren, Kim A. Gregory (Scott) of Romulus, Kelley A. Marlowe (Michael) of Northport, Leigh C. Fricks of Clemson, S.C., Eddie Ky Coatney (Jana) of Lizella, Ga.; nine great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; a special niece, Kathy W. Godfrey (George) of Tuscaloosa; other nieces and nephews; and a special friend and companion for 34 years, Richard Springfield.
Edith was born and raised in Buhl, Ala. She retired from Bryce Hospital after 33 years working in psychiatric nursing care and many training programs. Edith enjoyed traveling, cooking, playing cards, reading, and gardening, but most of all, spending time with her family.
Edith was the matriarch of her family. Everyone came to her when in need. Being the strong, independent lady that she was, she always knew what to do and how to get it done.
Edith was a very special mother, mammaw, sister, aunt, and friend to all. She touched the lives of many with her loving smile, sweet laugh, gentle face, and special hugs.
Edith was a Christian and loved the Lord, our Savior, Jesus Christ.
Edith will be greatly missed but never forgotten.
Pallbearers will be Scott Gregory, Michael Marlowe, Eddie Coatney, Trent Gooden, Mike Harris, and Yancy Collins.
Honorary pallbearers are the staff of Morning Pointe Assisted Living, Patsy Wiley, Pat Gooden, Peggy and Dickey Hoagland, Joel Robertson, Mary Lancaster, friends and neighbors of Culver Road, all co-workers and special friends at Bryce Hospital, and Dr. McDermott and his wife, Suzanne for all the many years of love and special care.
