

TUSCALOOSA - Joan Marie Myhrman King, age 80, of Tuscaloosa, Ala., passed away on April 12, 2016. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 30, 2016, at 3:00 p.m. at Covenant Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Neil McCarter will be officiating and Sunset Funeral Home, a Dignity Memorial Provider, will handle the arrangements.
She is survived by her daughters, Brenda Day, Rhonda Scott, Loreen King, Colleen Edmonson and Kristen Russo, and her ten grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Joan retired from the University of Alabama where she was employed by the College of Continuing Studies and the Bryant Conference Center. Joan was a member of Covenant Presbyterian Church where she was an ordained elder and participated in choir, the Meals on Wheels ministry, and the Women’s Evening Circle.
Joan was involved in many community activities, trips abroad to see rare birds and whales, and was a lifelong learner. In her community, she was actively involved in PEO, the Tuscaloosa Public Library Bookstore, Sierra Club, Dinner & A Movie, The Birthday Group, Meditation Group and the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI.) She was also a proud Alabama fan.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to the Dauphin Island Bird Sanctuaries (DIBS) for land conservation on the Island, P. O. Box 1295, Dauphin Island, AL 36528.
The family of Joan King wishes to thank Hospice of West Alabama, Dr. John Dubay and the staff of the Faye and Manderson Cancer Center and Dr. Reginald Motley.
