NORTHPORT - Maria Termini, age 90, died peacefully Wednesday, August 31, 2016 at home in Northport, Ala. A small, private family funeral will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, September 1, 2016, at Memory Chapel Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Memory Hill Gardens with Sunset Funeral Home, a Dignity Memorial Provider, directing.Maria was born in Castelforte, Italy on October 21, 1925, to the late Luigi Menditto and Rocca Panaccione Menditto. Maria was a strong and courageous woman of great faith filled with compassion and love. She survived World War II and the Nazi occupation of her town, while caring for her brother and sisters. From a very young age she became a caretaker and spent her life caring for, loving, and feeding others. She came to America at the age of 20 and found joy in raising her two daughters and being a devoted grandmother.She was preceded in death by her sisters, Vincenzina Boyd and Egle Menditto and brother, Arturo Menditto.She is survived by her husband, Giuseppe Termini of Northport, Ala.; daughter, Rose Marie Monroe and husband, Donald R. "Pete" Monroe of Charlotte, N.C.; daughter, Betty Jo Wright and husband, Jerry Wright of Northport, Ala.; three sisters, Elena Beaugez of Ocean Springs, Miss., Gina Lapetina and husband, Vic Lapetina of Melbourne, Australia and Rosina Prinzi of Melbourne, Australia; brother-in-law, Willard Boyd of Moss Point, Miss.; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.In lieu of flowers, Maria's family asks that you consider donating to Alabama Children's Hospital Foundation in her memory: foundation.childrensal.org.Alabama Children's Hospital Foundation 1600 7th Avenue South Birmingham, Alabama 35233
