A native of Tuscaloosa, Mike was born on December 20, 1946. He attended Central High School, was then part of the Class of 1965 of Tuscaloosa County High School and later graduated from the University of Alabama. Over the years, he worked in several managerial, sales, and shipping positions, but his true calling was as an award-winning fine art photographer. Along with his partner Martha Morgan, he traveled the world pursuing this passion. Mike also studied, and excelled in, the Korean Sword Martial Art of Kumdo, spending time in South Korea studying with masters of the art. A more recent passion was combatting litter along roadways and especially, his beloved sanctuary, nearby Hurricane Creek. A cat lover by nature, he cared for numerous beloved cats throughout his lifetime and also grew to be very fond of the three dogs he and Martha shared, Buster, Pup-Pup, and most recently, dear Emma.
Michael was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, James Monroe Adams and Valdie House Adams, his maternal grandparents, William A. Smith and Savannah Kizziah Smith Burns, his father, Lemuel Chester Adams, his mother, Louise Smith Adams, his sister Janis Louise Adams, and his two brothers Larry Charles Adams and Jerry Leonard Adams. He is survived by his longtime partner, Martha Irene Morgan, and by his two sisters Gayle Adams Rudd and Donna Adams Hampton. He is also survived and treasured by host of nephews, nieces, aunts, cousins, and friends.
The family would like to thank the many caregivers who assisted him and them during the final weeks of his life.
Family and friends are asked to honor Mike by participating in his mission of combatting litter and following his plea to “get off the couch and help our planet.” In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Friends of Hurricane Creek or a charity of one’s choice.
Mike will be deeply missed but fondly remembered for his unwavering wit, kind heart, and generous spirit.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 16, 2025, at Sunset Funeral Home, in Northport, Alabama with visitation beginning at 1:00 p.m.
