She called Alabama home until she met and married the love of her life, SFC Howard Lavinsky. Shirley took great pride in traveling the world with him as a devoted military wife for the entirety of his service and even discovered her own career with the federal government. She retired from DFAS in 2007.
She was able to spend her remaining years in Alabama where she often enjoyed family dinners with Jessica Howard and Donald Whaley and then in Indiana to be closer to her daughter Stephanie Grindstaff, her son-in-law Scott Grindstaff, and her grandsons Jack and Jason Grindstaff.
She adored being a Nanna so much that she frequently joined them on camping trips, even though she was not a fan of the great outdoors. It is with great sadness that we say goodbye, but her family and friends find comfort knowing that Shirley and Howard are finally able to be together gain.
