Thomas M. “Tim” Stone Jr., born January 1, 1949, and a lifelong resident of Northport, met his Heavenly Father on Tuesday, October 16, 2012. Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, October 20, 2012, at Five Points Baptist Church in Northport. Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. Sunset Funeral Home, a Dignity Memorial Provider, is in charge of arrangements.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Tom and Maudrin Stone, and his father-in-law, Walter Hayes.
He leaves his wife of 38 years, Sharron Hayes Stone; sisters and brothers-in-law, Faye and David Barnett and Sue and Joe Colquitt; mother-in-law, Eva Hayes; brother-in-law, Tom Hayes and wife Sheila; niece, Sharon B. Hale and husband Tom; nephew, Walt Hayes; great-nephew, Matthew Hale; and godchild, Reagen Ikard and husband David.
Tim was a 1967 graduate of Tuscaloosa County High School and proudly served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam Conflict. In 1976 he graduated from the University of Alabama School of Engineering and spent his career as a licensed civil engineer. At the time of his death he was employed with the Alabama Department of Transportation as district manager of Fayette and Lamar counties.
A man of few words with a clever, dry wit, Tim diligently and meticulously approached each assignment presented to him and saw it to completion. He took pride in watching the progress of projects as they improved the counties in which he worked. Treasured friendships developed with his coworkers and the residents of those communities.
Though his profession was a source of great satisfaction, he probably found his greatest enjoyment in holding a fishing pole off his little boat on Lake Wildwood – just him and the frogs and the serene beauty of God's creation.
Pallbearers will be Tom Hayes, Walt Hayes, David Barnett, Joe Colquitt, Tom Hale, and James Fisher.
Honorary pallbearers are ALDOT employees, neighbors of Forest Manor, Lake Wildwood friends, Tuscaloosa County High School Class of 1967, Joy Sunday School Class and members of Five Points Baptist Church, and Miriam Aycock, Gay Colvin, and Brenda Justiss.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Big Oak Ranch, P.O. Box 507, Springville, AL 35146.
