Winston was known for his pleasant smile and cheerful attitude. He was a remarkable person and was always willing to go above and beyond what was expected at work, church and for his family.
Winston graduated from Fayette County High School in 1960 and later graduated from the University of Alabama with a major in Manual Arts Therapy. When Winston moved to Tuscaloosa from Fayette, he worked for Drake Printing. In 1966, he started his 36-year career at the Tuscaloosa VA Hospital as a Training Instructor in the Print Clinic and later become their Manual Arts Therapist. He was in charge of all the design and printing of materials for the VA and other businesses in Tuscaloosa. One of his roles was to encourage the Veterans to help in Print Clinic by assigning them jobs according to their ability. His print clinic provided printing support for such programs as Adopt-a-School and Sugar Chase. Through the years he learned photography and videography and at times profiled those roles at the VA events, along with photographing and videoing weddings, gospel singings, family reunions and other events.
Winston loved all music, especially gospel music. He sang in the Northport Church of God choir for over 50 years. For many years he directed the main choir and also sang with the Eternal Life Singers. He loved going to gospel singings and many times participated in the singings. One of his favorites was the yearly Red Back Hymnal singing in Gardendale.
