Carmelita Lasam Tumang Sy, 84 years old, passed away on Thursday, March 16, 2023, in Mission Hills, California. She was born on July 13, 1938 in San Nicolas, Magalang, Pampanga, Philippines to Raymundo Tumang and Paulina Lasam.
Carmelita, fondly called as ‘Lita’, grew up most of her life in Quezon City. She graduated High School from Saint Theresa’s College, Santa Mesa Heights, Quezon City. After High School, She:
* attended college at the University of the East, Manila, where she received a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting;
* worked at the Sy family’s business of buying and selling dried fish at Divisoria, Manila;
* helped her husband, Romeo Roque Sy, with the logging concession business in the province of Palawan;
* managed the accounting side of ‘Sariling Atin Restaurant’ business in Quiapo, Manila;
Carmelita married Romeo on September 26, 1960 in a small ceremony at Pandacan, Manila. They were happily married for 42 years. She enjoyed watching Korean drama series and movies. She loved cooking for the family and friends. She loved travelling around the world in Asia, Europe and the United States. She immigrated to the U.S. in 1993 where she eventually obtained her U.S. citizenship on September 11, 2008.
Carmelita was preceded in death by her parents, Raymundo and Paulina, her husband, Romeo, and her children, Ronaldo and Rosanno.
Carmelita is survived by:
* Her children and their spouses,
o Romano (Leila) Sy of Chatsworth, California;
o Roderico (Zeny) Sy of Quezon City, Philippines;
o Roberto (Arlene) Sy of San Gabriel, California;
* Her grandchildren, Joshua Kevin, Nathan Gabriel, John Paul Ericson (Ashley Nicole), Michael Richard, Isabel Rose and Pauline Kristi;
* Her siblings,
o Amelia Tumang Valencia
o Sergio Pedro (Amelia) Tumang
o Catalina Tumang
* Her nieces, nephews and other relatives.
