February 20, 1954 - April 28, 2025
Deborah “Debbie” June (Brown) Convoy of Los Angeles, California passed away April 28,2025, after a brief illness and a long battle with uterine cancer. Now reunited in heaven with her late husband Larry, Debbie spent her final days surrounded by her three daughters and lifelong friends. Debbie’s kind spirit, creative soul, and warm hospitality was felt by every single person who came into her life. A devoted wife, extraordinary mother, loyal friend, impactful teacher, and brilliant songwriter, we are all deeply blessed to have been loved by her.
Deborah June (Brown) Convoy was born on February 20, 1954 in Amityville on Long Island in New York. The only child of Daniel Brown and Dorothy Gwiazda Brown, Debbie was raised in Farmingdale, Long Island until the age of 10 when her family relocated to the town of Warrensburg in upstate New York. Throughout her adolescence, Debbie was a leader in her community, the star of a number of theatrical performances, a varsity athlete, head majorette, as well as the Class of 1972 Sports Princess.
A magnetic star on the stage, Debbie continued to pursue her love of the theatre into college at SUNY Brockport where she graduated with a degree in Theatre Arts. After the blizzard of 1977, Debbie became determined to find a life of sunshine, packed up her Volkswagen Bug and drove across the country to Los Angeles, the place she would call home for the next nearly 50 years. Debbie wasted no time chasing her dreams when she arrived in LA. First, she landed a background role in the 1977 classic Slap Shot, then spent nearly a decade working for the legendary singer Tom Jones. A resident of the famous Oakwood Apartments of Burbank, Debbie met Larry Convoy as she walked past him at the pool one day, and set into motion the beautiful life and marriage they shared for 39 together on earth and now reunited.
Debbie and Larry married on November 7, 1981 and settled into their home in the San Fernando Valley that they shared for 44 years. Along the way, they welcomed their three daughters, Jenna, Katie, and Lindsey and dedicated their lives to building a family that was as strong of a unit as any family could be. There was never a soccer game, talent show, or piano recital without Debbie and Larry. Their home was a place that was always full of friends and family from near and far.
After leaving the entertainment business to raise her daughters, Debbie went back to school to receive a teaching credential in early childhood education and began teaching at Weekday Preschool in Northridge, CA. Her love of children, music, art, and books made her every child’s dream teacher. She and her teaching partner spent 17 years in the “Yellow Door” where she made sure every single student found a love of learning and felt special, unique and seen. She was an extraordinary teacher and helped shape the lives of hundreds of students over her 20+ years.
Upon her retirement, Debbie found her way back into music through songwriting. After decades of traveling across America attending country music concerts, she began putting the lyrics that lived in her soul down on paper, even travelling to Nashville to record demos of her songs with a full band and vocals. Her songs have been pitched to top names in country music and have garnered her recognition from American Songwriter magazine and numerous executives from within the country music industry. Her gift of songwriting is memorialized on her soundcloud account and can be enjoyed by everyone for decades to come: https://soundcloud.com/debbie-convoy
The last chapter in Debbie’s life brought her one last title, grandma. Nanny Deb, as she was lovingly referred to, met her grandson Jack Laurence Rosencranz in 2024. She spent her last year of life singing songs, reading books, and cuddling with her grandbaby, providing another piece of joy to her already full life.
Debbie was a dreamer who walked through every door of opportunity that came to her. She did everything in life with grace, intentionality, and love. Her presence on this earth will be missed and never replaced, but her impact and example will live on in our lives forever.
Debbie is survived by her three daughters Jenna Convoy, Katie Convoy (Brandon), and Lindsey Rosenkranz (Jason) and her grandson Jack Laurence Rosenkranz. She is reunited in heaven with her husband Larry, her mother Dorothy, her father Dan, and her many beloved pets.
Debbie’s final resting place will be at Oakwood Memorial Park and Cemetery in Chatsworth, CA and a celebration of her magnificent life will be held this summer.
