Sister Rita McCormack, Sister of St. Louis, was born Mary Rita McCormack on February 6, 1931, in Newtownbutler, County Fermanagh, Northern Ireland. She passed away peacefully on January 14, 2026, at Mary Health of the Sick in Newbury Park, California.
In her many years of devoted service as a Sister of St. Louis, Sister Rita dedicated her life to education and ministry. From 1952 to 1996, she taught in various schools in California, touching countless lives through her commitment to learning, faith, and service. After retiring from teaching, she resided at Villa Maria in Woodland Hills, where she continued to live her vocation through service and community life. She was an active and devoted member of St. Bernardine Church Parish.
Sister Rita was deeply loved within her religious community and by all who knew her. She was known for her kindness, gentle spirit, and warm presence.
She will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by her family, her Sisters of St. Louis, her extended community, former students, parishioners, and all whose lives she touched.
