September 18, 1929 – February 4, 2017
Bob Fazio was born September 18, 1929 in Nogales, Arizona to Patrick and Alma Fazio. After moving about the southwest, the family settled in Los Angeles. The third of seven children, Bob graduated from Marshall High School where he was a football and track standout. He went on to continue playing football at Whittier College where he was a member of the Orthogonian Society and majored in physical education. In 1953, prior to his graduation from Whittier, Bob married the love of his life, Nancy. After graduation Bob was drafted by the US Army which took him and Nancy to Maryland and Northern California. Bob’s military service ended in 1955 and he and Nancy returned to Los Angeles where Bob started his long career in education within the Los Angeles City School system. While continuing to teach, Bob earned his Masters degree in Education from UCLA which led to his role as a junior high school and high school administrator. He was a great mentor and encourager of students, many of whom were inspired by him to seek roles in education. Bob officially retired from education in 1992 after 36 years though he continued another eleven years as a substitute teacher and administrator.
An avid and expert fisherman, Bob loved sharing his passion with others. Bob looked forward to his annual forays into the Sierras with his family and friends.
Above all, Bob’s life was marked by his loyalty and pride for his children and grandchildren for whom memories of their beloved Papa will continue to bring smiles to their faces.
Bob is survived by Nancy, his wife of 64 years, as well as son Robert (Penny), daughter Sharon (Brian), son Kevin (Christy), daughter Linda (John), brother Pat, brother Jim and nine grandchildren. He was preceded in death by son David and grandson Christopher.
