

Mrs. Main was born on Oct 23, 1923, in Clairmont Springs, Ala., the daughter of Edgar Simeon Horn and Lessie Eunice (Todd) Horn. She grew up in Clairmont Springs and attended Clay County High School and graduated in 1942. She worked after high school in Anniston, AL and met her husband at Fort McClellan during World War II. They were married on February 8, 1944,
Mrs. Main was predeceased by her husband, Raymond Gay Main. They were married for 65 years. Mrs. Main is survived by her sister, Lera Fay (Horn) Holland of Glencoe, AL, and her brother, Boyden Doris Horn of Clairmont Springs, AL.
Mrs. Main is survived by two sons, Donald A. Main and his wife, Karen, of Groton, and Dennis S. Main, and his wife, Renee, of Bozrah; three daughters, Joyce F. Bergeson of Groton, Jan Roberta of Norwich and Melissa A. Wangsgard, and her husband, John, of Springfield, Va.
Mrs. Main delighted in all of her thirteen grandchildren, Janie(Main) Ramstorf of California, Carrie Main and Rachel Main of Jamaica Plain, MA, Justin Main of Groton, Victoria (Bergeson) Blauvelt of Oakdale, Axel Bergeson of Ambler, Pennsylvania , Joshua Bergeson of Groton, Melissa (Bergeson) Martinez of Baltic, Marcy Currier of Red Hook, NY, Melanie (Currier) Concepcion of Norwich, Samantha Wangsgard of Rapid City, SD, Mitchell Wangsgard of Springfield, VA , and Kendall Wangsgard of New York, NY. She supported their efforts in acquiring an education, always offering to pay for textbooks or a tank of gas.
Mrs. Main also had great fun with her great grandchildren, Adrian Currier-Wilson of Red Hook, NY, Haley Ramstorf of California, Maya Concepcion and Nathan Concepcion of Norwich, and Victoria Martinez and Gabriella Martinez of Baltic. No grand or great grand ever left the house without an offer of a little bag of goodies.
Mrs. Main bowled for many years and made good friends in her bowling league.
Mrs. Main was a long time member of the Ledyard Congregational Church and for many years, she spent countless hours planning for the yearly holiday bazaar. She loved making quilts and donated many handmade items to help raise funds for the church over the years. Her latest projects included making over 200 potholders for friends, family, and for adolescents who are moving into their first apartments out of foster care. She also put the finishing touches on many baby quilts for the church bazaar.
Mrs. Main always loved her flower gardens and people often commented on the beautiful display of blooms they noticed as they drove by her yard. She and her husband had their own garden for many years and Mrs. Main was known for her homemade jellies and jams. She could always be counted on for a favorite recipe at any gathering.
In the past few years, Mrs Main was cared for in her home by her family and by her kind companions from Seniors Helping Seniors, Maria, Sara, Cathey, Sue Anne, Shirley and Yvonne. We are grateful for their compassionate care.
