Anne Mary Hurley Socha

BOZRAH – Anne M. Socha (Hurley), 79, entered the arms of the Lord with her family by her side on Sunday at her home. She was born on Oct. 14, 1933 in Tewksbury, MA, the daughter of James and Anne (Culleton) Hurley and graduated from Fitton High School in Winthrop, MA.

Anne was united in marriage to Joseph Socha Jr., on May 23, 1953 in Winthrop, MA. He predeceased her on Aug. 13, 1993.

She was a teacher’s aide and a well-known waitress most of her life. She enjoyed traveling extensively with her sisters and nieces after retirement. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and was an avid Boston Braves fan, then Red Sox.

Anne was the devoted mother of two sons; Joseph and Carol of Oakdale and John of Bozrah, as well as a daughter, Anne Mary Coleman (Socha) who predeceased her on Sept. 28, 2008, and son-in-law, Mike Coleman and three grandchildren Krystina Socha and Jeffrey Socha. She was predeceased by her other grandson Timothy J. Socha on July 6, 1998. Anne was the dear sister of Buddy Hurley of Dover, NH, Edward “Gig” Hurley of Winthrop, Patricia Corkhum of Winthrop, Thomas and Joyce Hurley of Hull, MA, Paul and Sherry Hurley of Ipswich, MA, Marion Hurley of Saugus, MA, and sister-in-law Kay Hurley of Winthrop, Jeanette Jowdy of Bozrah, Rita and Vernon Grubbs of New Creek, W.Va., Martha and Leo LaLiberte of Ojai, CA, Leon and Debrah Socha of Willmington, NC, and brother-in-law Ray Drozynski. Mrs. Socha was also predeceased by the late Daniel Hurley, Jeff and Ruth Hurley, Barbara Hurley, Margaret and Dexter Malone, Paul Corkhum, Michael Hurley, Mary and William Rice of Winthrop, Edna Drozynski, Al Jowdy and Chester Socha. She is also survived by seventy one nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Friday at Sacred Heart Church, 52 W. Town St., Norwich at 10:30am immediately followed by interment at Maplewood Cemetery. There are no calling hours.
