

Ed was born on September 28th 1936 in South Addison, Maine. He grew up in South Portland, Maine and graduated from South Portland High School in 1955. He would later earn a Bachelors degree in Physics from the University of Maine in 1958. He was on both his High School and College rifle teams and continued to shoot competitively for many years thereafter. After graduating from College, Ed served in both the US Army and Army reserves. He was married to his high school sweetheart and the love of his life, Ethelyne “Lin” Grant Batson for 53 years.
Surviving in addition to his wife, Lin, are his two children; his son Bruce and wife Janine, and his daughter Donna and husband Glen. Ed also has five grandchildren; Heather and Colleen Batson; Brandon, Matthew and Cassandra Woods. Ed is also survived by his brother Gordon Batson and wife Catherine of Potsdam New York.
He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren; everything from youth soccer games and school concerts to target shooting, Chucky Cheese, and taking them to Disney movies.
Calling hours will be held at the Church & Allen Funeral Home in Norwich, CT on Friday, November 11th from 6-8 pm. A funeral service will be held at Leffingwell Baptist Church in Bozrah, CT on Saturday, November 12th at 10 am.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent in his honor to the Deacon’s Fund at Leffingwell Baptist Church where he was an active member and served faithfully for many years as a deacon, Sunday school teacher, choir member, and youth group leader.
