George W. Strouse

NORWICH – George W. Strouse, 70, passed away on April 23,2013 at Backus Hospital. He was born in Norwich, CT on March 1, 1943 to the late George H. and Louise (Lathrop) Strouse, Jr. He graduated from the Norwich Free Academy in 1961 and Gettysburg College in 1965. He worked for Chelsea Groton Bank for 35 years retiring as Executive Vice President, Corporate Secretary and Treasurer. He retired in 2003 and served on the Chelsea Groton Board of Directors from 2003 to 2012.

George was active in the Norwich community serving as Trustee and Corporator of NFA, President of the NFA Alumni Association, President and Treasurer of the Otis Library, Director of the Johnson Home, Director of Tater’s Charities, Trustee of the Chelsea Groton Bank, Trustee of the First Baptist Church, Director and Treasurer of the Norwich Cemetery Association, and Board Member of ECHO Cancer Foundation.

George played varsity baseball and basketball at NFA and varsity basketball at Gettysburg College. He was inducted into the Gettysburg College Hall of Athletic Honor, Norwich Sports Hall of Fame, NFA Basketball H all of Fame and NFA Sports Hall of Fame.

On June 26, 1965, George married Lois (Petrie) at Park Congregational Church in Norwich. George is survived by his wife Lois; sons: James D. Strouse and his wife Donna, David G. Strouse and his wife Stephanie; brothers: Robert (Judy) and Richard (Cynthia); grandchildren: Evan, Cameron, Madeline and Julia, along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.

A Memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 27, 2013 at Park Congregational Church, 283 Broadway, Norwich, CT at 2PM. There are no calling hours.
