
He was born in Norwich, CT on June 10, 1947 to the late James and Betty (Jones) Congdon Sr. Jim joined the Army serving two tours in Vietnam and retired after 20 years of service. He worked for the family moving business before going back to school to complete his master’s degree in education. Jim retired from teaching after ten years at Kelly Jr. High in Norwich.
Jim was a man of many interests, a long standing member of the Ledyard Lions Club, he enjoyed hiking, fly fishing and camping to name a few, he was always curious and was a keeper of random knowledge.
On April 12, 1975 he married his beloved wife Mary (Alsbury) in Ortonville, Michigan who survives him. Together they have three children; Theresa Padgett of Alabama, Denise Congdon of Farmington, CT and Jim Congdon III of Ledyard, CT. He is also survived by his brother;Robert Congdon of Preston, sister; Tina Vaclavik of Canterbury, 4 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Memorial Services will be held on Sunday at 2pm at St. James Episcopal Church in Poquetanuk, CT with Military Honors. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours.
