It is with profound shock and unbearable sadness that we announce the sudden passing of James “Jim”Joseph Synott, 58, of Lisbon, Connecticut, who passed away at Hartford Hospital surrounded by the love of his family and friends following a sudden medical emergency at his home.
Born on February 8, 1968, Jim graduated from Norwich Technical High School in 1986 and went on to earn a degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Connecticut. Throughout his career, he worked for numerous companies and was respected for his knowledge, dedication, and strong work ethic. For the past 18 years, he was a valued employee of Carrier Corporation, where he built lasting friendships and took great pride in his work. Jim had been looking forward to beginning his retirement on May 28, a milestone he had worked hard to achieve.
Jim met his high school sweetheart, Christine, while they were both working summer jobs at Burger King. They married on September 27, 1997, and together built a beautiful life in Lisbon, Connecticut, where they raised their two sons, Jonathan and Jaxson.
A devoted UConn fan, Jim had a deep love for his alma mater and especially for UConn Men’s Basketball. As a proud season ticket holder, he followed the Huskies faithfully wherever they played. He attended ten Final Fours and witnessed four UConn National Championship victories in person — the most recent alongside his son Jonathan, a member of the UConn Class of 2023.
Jim found joy in life’s simple pleasures: working in his garden, riding his quad or UTV around his property, and taking trips to ride the trails of Berlin, New Hampshire with friends. He was also the person who always got the concert tickets for the group. Jim believed music was best experienced live. From Woodstock ’94 and Woodstock ’99 to countless concerts over the years, Jim created memories filled with laughter, friendship, and adventure.
Jim also loved to travel with his wife, extended family, and friends. In recent years, those adventures included unforgettable trips to Greece, Alaska, Italy, Ireland and most recently Barcelona, creating memories that his loved ones will carry forever.
Jim will be deeply missed by his beloved wife, Christine (Johnson) Synott; his son, Jonathan and Jonathan’s longtime partner Amanda Mueller, and son Jaxson. He is also survived by his brother, Jason Synott and his wife Debbie; brother-in-law Kevin Johnson and wife Susan; sister-in-law Karen Moriarty; brother-in-law Michael Johnson and wife Patty; along with many cherished nieces, nephews, grand-nephews and niece, extended family members, and very dear friends.
James was predeceased by his parents George Synott and Stasia (Rodowicz) Synott.
Jim touched the lives of many through his quiet kindness, steady presence, dry sense of humor, and unwavering love for his family and friends. His memory will live on in the stories shared, the music played, the games watched, the trails ridden, and the countless moments of kindness and joy he brought to those around him.
Calling Hours will be held at the Church & Allen Funeral Home, 136 Sachem Street, Norwich, on Thursday, May 28, 2026, from 9:00 am to 11:00 am, followed by a Celebration of Life Service at 11:00 am.
Burial will immediately follow at Maplewood Cemetery, 184 Salem Tnpk, Norwich.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his memory to: Pat and Jim Calhoun Cardiology Center UCONN Foundation
