John Joseph Foley, 87, died Thursday, Sept. 21st at W.W. Backus Hospital. He was a lifelong resident of Norwich, and a loving husband, father, and grandfather.
John is survived by his wife, Anita L. (Smith) Foley; his children, John K. Foley, Joan E. (Foley) Brennan and her husband John W. Brennan, and Edward M. and Gabi Foley; his grandchildren Andrew J. Brennan, Courtney E. Brennan, and Luke W. Foley; and his brothers James Foley and David Foley, and his many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents James C. Foley and Hazel M. (Purvis) Foley; his son, Keith F. Foley; and his brother, Donald Foley.
John was a graduate of Norwich Free Academy (1948), Bentley College (1955), and the University of Hartford (1959), where he received a B.S. in Accounting, and was a member of the Kappa Phi Alpha honors fraternity. He served in the U.S. Marines (1949-1952) and received the rank of Sergeant in the Korean War. He worked 18 years as an accounting and credit manager at Robertson Paper Box, was president of the National Association of Accountants (1975), and elected a lifetime member of Emeritus after 50 years of service.
Calling hours will be held 9:30AM-10:30AM Mon., Sept. 25th at Church & Allen Funeral Home, (136 Sachem St., Norwich, CT), followed by a Mass at Sacred Heart Catholic Church at 11AM (57 W. Town St., Norwich, CT). In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Sisters of Charity of Our Lady Mother of the Church (54 West Main St., Baltic, CT) or personal charity of choice.
