With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beautiful daughter, Layla Wren Pabon, who left this world peacefully on July 16, 2025, wrapped in the love of her devoted parents. Layla was bravely battling ATRT, a rare and aggressive form of brain and spinal cancer.
Born on June 20, 2023, at Backus Hospital in Norwich, Connecticut, Layla brought light, love, and immeasurable joy from the moment she arrived. She was cherished deeply by her parents, Kristen Jones and Kadyn Pabon, and adored by her proud big brother, Grayson Jones.
Layla is survived by her loving parents and brother, as well as her grandparents Amy Dufficy, Jose Pabon, and Bettina Jones, and great-grandparents Paula and Thomas Dufficy and Elba Pabon and Antonio Miranda. She now rests peacefully with her grandfather, Robert Jones, in eternal light. Layla’s memory will be held close by her great-grandparents and a large, loving circle of aunts, uncles, cousins, and extended family members who treasured her every smile.
Though her time with us was far too short, Layla’s presence was radiant and powerful. She had a smile that could brighten the darkest days and laughter that echoed with pure joy. Layla loved being outside, going for walks, and feeling the breeze on her face. She especially delighted in snuggling up with her favorite blankets to watch Disney movies like Moana and Encanto, bursting with excitement whenever the music began.
One of her favorite things to do was watching her brother Grayson singing along to “How Far I’ll Go." Whether in the car or at home, Grayson could always make her laugh, bringing joy even on her hardest days. Layla also loved watching Ms. Rachel, dancing and mimicking her favorite songs, and giggling along to story time with beloved books like Five Little Monkeys and Llama Llama Red Pajama.
Layla’s strength and resilience were an inspiration. After six months of intense chemotherapy and stem cell transplants, her joyous return home was a moment of triumph and love. A memory her family will always hold dear.
Layla will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Her light lives on in every laugh, every hug, and every act of love we carry forward in her name.
Services will be private. A public Celebration of Layla’s Life will take place on Thursday, July 24th at 1:30 PM at the French Club 79 Wilson st Jewett city, CT. All who loved her are welcome to join us in honoring and remembering our precious Layla.
