

Mark was born October 31, 1954 at Clark Air Force Base, Philippines, the son of the late Ruvel and Grace Whitney.
He was a self-taught guitarist well known throughout the area having played in many local bands with wonderful friends and musicians. Mark was a longtime member of The JC Hatfield Band, The Gin Mill Band, North of the Border and The Southern Breeze Band. He was employed for 25 years by Connecticut General Painting of Niantic.
Mark is survived by his best friend and beloved wife of 24 years Laurie McCormack Whitney. He is also survived by his son Mark A. and daughter Jennifer both of Norwich. Mark leaves his three sisters, Teri Murtha, Roxanne Gardner and Laurie Bozsum, all of Montville as well as two brothers, Steve Whitney of New London and Robert Whitney of Montville and their families. Mark was also predeceased by his nephew Daniel Murtha.
Visitation will be Saturday, February 5, 2011 from 9:00-11:00 a.m. at Church & Allen Funeral Service, 136 Sachem Street, Norwich with funeral services to be held there at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.
