Mary C. (Christopher) Pilling, age 94, of 1 Beechwood Place, Waterford, CT and formerly of Maplewood Court, Norwich, passed away on Wednesday, November

11, 2020. She was born and raised in Norwich by Greek immigrant parents, Stilianos and Chrysanthe (Topalis) Christofas, later changed to Christopher.

Mary attended and graduated from Norwich Free Academy and on January 20, 1952 she was united in marriage to Earl F. Pilling in the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Norwich. After 42 years of marriage, Earl predeceased her on December 29, 1994, four days after his Christmas birthday.

Mary was employed by The American Optical Co. for several years and then by the City of Norwich, Department of Public Utilities from which she retired in 1989.

Mary will be well remembered by all who knew her for her humor, vivaciousness and by the fact that she was a life-long exercise gym enthusiast until her late 80s.

Mary is survived by several nieces and nephews including many grandnieces and grandnephews throughout the United States.

She was also predeceased by all of her siblings: Peter S. Christopher of Westport, CT and Sarasota, Florida, John S. Christopher of North Haven, CT, and Evangeline Fairfull of Oldsmar, Florida.

Due to coronavirus pandemic restrictions, services will be private. Interment will be by her husband’s side at Maplewood Cemetery.
