Preston-Mary Elizabeth Smigiel, age 79, of Preston, passed away on July 10, 2015 at William W. Backus Hospital in Norwich. She was born on May 10, 1936 to the late Eugene H. and Mary Elizabeth (Mitchell) Sabourin. She married her late husband Donald A. Smigiel on February 27, 1954 at St. Mary’s Cathedral in Norwich.
She worked as an LPN at Backus Hospital.
Mary is survived by a daughter, Donna M. O’Meara of Ledyard and Lori A. Walrath of NY., a granddaughter Kristin J. Quenneville and her husband Vin of WA., a sister Annette M. Skinner of Uncasville, a brother in law Benjamin J. Kustesky of Norwich, a daughter in law France Smigiel, a brother and sister in law Bob and Stella Smigiel and several nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by a son Gary D. Smigiel and a sister Sheila Y. Kustesky.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Sacred Heart Church in Taftville on Wednesday at 10:00. Burial will immediately follow at St. Joseph Cemetery.
