Born in Putnam, she graduated from Killingly High School in 1960 and Backus Hospital Nursing School in 1963. She dedicated over 40 years of her life to Backus Hospital, working mostly in intensive care and cardiac care nursing, followed by the post-anesthesia care unit (PACU). She retired from the PACU in 2005 after a career marked by fierce advocacy, skill, and compassion for her patients.
Nancy was a force of nature — both funny and no-nonsense, with an unmistakable laugh that those who knew her will never forget. She enjoyed vacations by the beach, good food, good drinks, good books, and the company of her friends and family.
More than anything, she was proud to be a mother and grandmother. She is survived by her children, Dawn (Allan) Stewart, Scott (Mary) Williams, and Jay (Kendra) Williams, and by her four grandchildren, Zachary (Sky) Mullen, Sarah Williams, Rileigh Williams, and Logan Williams. She was predeceased by her parents, Alfred and Teresa Sapowitz Beebe; her siblings, Alfred Beebe Jr. and Virginia Stewart; and especially the love of her life, her beloved husband Anthony Joseph Williams Jr.
Calling hours will be held at Church and Allen Funeral Home, 136 Sachem Street, Norwich, on Wednesday, September 3, from 3:00–6:00 p.m. The Nurse’s Honor Guard will officially relieve her of her nursing duties at 4:45 and Pastor Joel Rissinger will conduct a memorial service at 5:00 p.m.
Nancy will be remembered for her strength, her humor, and her infectious laugh, as well as the love she carried for her family and those she loved.
