May 6, 1949 – May 18, 2026
Reverend Richard James Albamonti, 77, of New London, CT, passed away unexpectedly at home on May 18.
Born on May 6, 1949, in Norwich, CT, he was the beloved son of the late Dr. Mario Albamonti and Carole Albamonti.
Father Albamonti graduated from Villanova University in 1971, and then studied for the priesthood at St. John’s Seminary in Brighton, MA. He was ordained on Nov. 20, 1976, at St. Patrick’s Cathedral in Norwich. He later served at various parishes in the diocese, including Middletown, Pawcatuck, Dayville, Rogers, Coventry, Clinton and Westbrook.
He is survived by his sisters Karen Albamonti, Linda Albamonti and Susan Leber (Michael), as well as nieces Nicole Leber Kwasniewski (Stanley) and their children Alexa, Quinn and Hayes; Alexandra Leber, and nephew Kevin Leber (Rebecca) and their son, Liam.
A life-long Red Sox fan, Father Albamonti always had a sense of adventure. After his college graduation, he and his roommate rode their motorcycles to Mexico and back, causing many hours of prayer in the Albamonti household. But it was his love of boating that kept him busy in his off hours; he was a member of the Thames Yacht Club, and several years ago made a solo voyage from New London to Key West, Florida.
Visiting hours will be held from 9 - 10 a.m. on Friday, May 29, at St. Patrick’s Cathedral, 211 Broadway, Norwich, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will be at St. Mary’s & St. Joseph’s Cemetery, 815 Boswell Ave, Norwich.
Fair winds and following seas, Rick. You will be missed.
