Norwich-Sabina Ferber, 99 of Norwich passed away Monday. She was born Sabina Ptashnik in Poland, and at a young age showed interest in dressmaking, which became her life’s work. She was a seamstress in Krakow, Poland where she met the love of her life and future husband Joseph Ferber. They were married during World War II and against all odds; together they survived the war and the holocaust. They came to the US in 1960 and opened a tailor shop on Main Street in Norwich. They became well known in town for their skilled craftsmanship until 1968, when Joseph passed away. Sabina ran the tailor shop by herself and through her work came to know and be friends with many people in the Norwich area. She closed the shop in the 80’s and continued her work at home until 1996, when she retired. She is survived by her sons, Ike and Leon, his wife Loren and two beautiful granddaughters, and by nieces and nephews and their families. Sabina has been a lifelong member of the Congregation of Brothers of Joseph. Donations in her memory can be made to the Congregation of Brothers of Joseph at 2 Broad Street in Norwich. The funeral will be on Tuesday at 3:00 PM at Church and Allen Funeral Home followed by burial at Congregation Brothers of Joseph cemetery in Preston. Shiva will be held at 15 Norton Ct in Norwich.
