

Mrs. Shirley Elizabeth Geer, age 92, of Bozrah CT passed away on Friday May 3, 2024, at her home surrounded by her family. Shirley was born June 9, 1931, at Hartford Hospital, Hartford CT. The daughter of the late John Evans and Elsie May (Thorton) Evans of Willimantic, CT.
Shirley graduated from Windham High School in 1949 and the University of Connecticut in 1954 with a Bachelor of Science in Family Studies.
Shirley married George Mitchell Geer of East Haddam, CT on June 5, 1954. Upon her husband’s retirement from the Air Force, they settled in the Norwich, CT area, and later lived in East Haddam CT and most recently, Bozrah, CT.
Shirley was a loving wife and mother who enjoyed flower gardening and traveling in the United States, England, Germany and to many European countries. She volunteered for the American Red Cross in Germany, at the Cragin Library in Colchester, CT, and the Mystic Seaport Museum’s Membership office, Mystic CT. Shirley was very active in the Norwich Alliance Church, Norwich, CT, serving as a deaconess, church secretary, governing board secretary, church library, Sunday school teacher, choir member, and member of the church prayer chain.
Shirley was predeceased by George, her husband of 59 years; son, Scott Andrew Geer and twin premature infant sons, John Charles Geer and Mark Allen Geer; her parents, John and Elsie Evans, sister Barbra Kelley and her husband Robert, brother-in-law Charles William Geer and his wife Gladys, sister in- law Dorothy Geer Larsek and her husband Frank and brother-in law Arthur Gilbert. Shirley is survived by her daughter Susan Elizabeth Nye and her husband William (Bill) of Lisbon, CT; her son George Mitchell Geer, Jr. and his wife, Sharon Carroll Geer of East Haddam, CT and her sister-in-law, Shirley Gilbert of Taftville, CT as well as many nieces and nephews.
Shirley’s ashes will be scattered with her husbands in a private family ceremony.
