Ulysses John Sakellarides, 73, of Norwich, passed away October 13, 2025 after a final battle with Merkel cell carcinoma, which he had miraculously fought and conquered for 20 years. Born November 7, 1951 to John and Aggeliki “Ann” (Lampos) Sakellarides, he graduated from Norwich Free Academy in 1969 and received his Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from the University of Connecticut in 1974. Ulysses was a social worker in the mid-1970s and subsequently worked with his uncle Ted Lampos at Groton Pizza Palace for over 20 years. He retired in 1997 and is still remembered fondly by his co-workers and customers.
Anyone who had the pleasure of his company could attest that Ulysses was the kindest person you could meet. With a quick smile, gentle wit, and genuine twinkle in his eye, he found the best in everyone. For friends and family, he was someone who could listen and empathize without judgment and offer something more valuable than advice: love and acceptance. His conduct in his daily life was a testament to his deep faith in God, and his spirit was one of essential goodness and light. His love will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
Ulysses is survived by his first cousins James “Jim” Lampos and his wife Michaelle Pearson of Old Lyme; Lampros Lampos of Waterford; Elaine Billias; Ann Kizanis Klapper and her husband Andy of East Longmeadow, MA; and Meg Sakellarides Mokoski and her husband Scott of East Haddam. He is also survived by his godchildren, Theodore Lampos and Phoebe Lampos.
Relatives and friends are invited for visitation at 9:00am followed by a funeral service at 10:00am on Saturday, October 18th at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 247 Washington Street, Norwich, CT 06360 with burial to follow at Maplewood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church.
