Arlene M. Smith

Arlene was born in Johnson City on July 28, 1937 the daughter of Herschel and Barbara (Shimer) Huffine. She grew up in the McDonough area and attended school in Oxford. On December 22, 1956 in McDonough she married Lorne Smith Sr. who passed away April 9, 1988. Over the years she has worked in the food service area having worked for W.T. Grant’s and Jamesway. She had also worked as a Residential Counselor for the Community Work Shop in Norwich and was ready to help with special needs people. Arlene had also worked at the Head Start in No. Norwich as well as the Children’s Center in Norwich. In her spare time Arlene enjoyed bowling, knitting, crocheting and gardening.

Arlene is survived by her children; Lorne Smith, Jr. of No. Norwich, Barry Smith of Smyrna, Jeannette Roberts of Camillus, Brian Smith of No. Norwich, Katherine Smith of Woodstock, Ga, Kevin Smith of Norwich and Julie Smith of Chittenango, her brothers Glenn (Barbara) Huffine of Norwich and Ernest Huffine of PA. Also surviving are 15 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Besides her husband Lorne, Arlene was predeceased by a daughter Susan Boudreau and brothers Clifford and Neil Huffine.

A funeral service for Arlene will be held on Sunday, December 8, at 4:00 pm from the R.J.Fahy Funeral Home. The Rev. Jeremy Stopford will officiate. Interment will be at a later date in the North Norwich Cemetery.
