He was born August 19, 1957 in Norwich, NY, the son of Howard and Marie (Foster) Whaley.
After attending school locally, Bruce enlisted with the United States Army, serving from 1975 until his honorable discharge in 1979.
He held a number of occupations locally, most recently as a forklift operator for Baillie Lumber.
In his leisure time, Bruce enjoyed hunting, working with tractors, and riding in his “Kubuggy” (side-by-side).
He held a great love for nature, and would often take car rides on country roads to simply enjoy the passing scenery. He would enjoy camping trips with his nephew, Jesse Whaley, and at the end of the day, he would enjoy relaxing with a Coors Light.
He is remembered by those who knew him as a hard-working, honest man with a huge heart. He also had a sly, mischievous side, and enjoyed making wise-cracks and playing jokes on his family and friends. He enjoyed cats, and, while not particularly fond of dogs, greatly enjoyed the company of his niece’s pit bull, Zeus. He had great impact on the lives of his grand-nieces and grand-nephews, who lovingly helped in caring for him during his final illness. He dearly loved his mother, and while he enjoyed picking on her, he was always there for her.
He is survived by his mother, Marie Whaley; his sisters: Terri Slater and her partner Richard Carpenter, Shelley Blinebry and her husband Bernie, Susan Hemstrought and her husband Robert; his brother: Michael Whaley; and many nieces and nephews, including Tanya Law, along with her partner Jason Bard and her children: Morgan Brooks and her partner Brad Sramek, Dustin Smith and his partner Christina Wrigley, and Kevin Desha.
He was predeceased by his father, Howard Leslie Whaley, in 1999.
A graveside memorial service will take place Saturday, June 5, 2021 at 2 p.m. in Plymouth South Side Cemetery in the hamlet of Plymouth, NY. A celebration of Bruce’s life will immediately follow the service at a location to be announced.
