
Donald G. White passed away on May 11, 2025 after a long illness. Don was born on March 6, 1936 in Norwich, NY to Harold White and Groverlyn Smith. Don spent his younger years in Norwich where he worked at Victory Markets before getting hired at GLA. Don worked his way up through the aeronautics division and ultimately joined Norwich Aero where he worked until he retired. Don was a contracts administrator and traveled all over the United States securing government contracts for Norwich Aero. Don was very well respected by the owner of Norwich Aero, Bill Ballard and his coworkers. When Don retired there was standing room only at his retirement party. In his younger days, Don enjoyed fishing and took his brother and sons to the St. Lawrence on many occasions camping and fishing for the weekend. Don also enjoyed hunting with his brothers and sons and more than once a large deer could be found at his residence. Don also enjoyed gardening and had large vegetable gardens that he would care for and his wife would freeze and can the harvests from those gardens. When Don retired he and his wife traveled to many places including a trip with lifelong friends, Barb and Harold Colf, to Hawaii. In October they would venture down to Cherry Grove, Myrtle Beach and meet up with several couples that they had befriended over the years. They would spend the month of October there relaxing, sitting on the beach, playing cards and get into mischief. Don’s favorite things were mowing his lawn to within an inch of its life on his garden tractor, scratch off lottery tickets and going to a casino. Any casino would do and he and Harold had many adventures traveling to various casinos. His favorite game was Black Jack.
Don is survived by his son, Steve(Kay) White, Donnie Allen (Susie) White, daughters, Elissa (Bob)Rosa and Theresa Thompson (Dave Pierre). He is also survived by his brothers, Walt (Heidi) Smith, Stanley (Sunne) White and sister Sunne (Wayne) Gregg. Don had 9 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Don’s lifelong friends Barb and Harold Colf kept in touch with Don and remained close friends for 62 years. Don was predeceased by his wife of 48 years, Dorothy White, his son Scott White and daughter in law, Kay White.
The family wish to thank AO Fox hospital for their compassionate care of Don and for the family.
At Don’s request, there will be no funeral services and burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.
