Marty and I went camping every month for years while growing up in New Berlin Boy Scout Troop 61.  Then we graduated together in the NBCS Class of 1978.  Today I sent out the invitation for our 45th reunion next month, called and left a voice mail on Marty's phone, and then found the announcement of his passing on the Class of 1978 Facebook page.

A few tears later, I am writing this farewell note.

Marty is the eleventh from our class to depart.  Death has a way of calling us to think about what is really a priority in life.  Sometimes death causes us to make significant life changes.  Sometimes those changes are even forced on us.

Today I want to celebrate Marty's life.  I want to thank God that Marty was willing to put up with me and even encourage me to be "more" with him by my side.

40 of our class gathered in 2018.  Fewer will be here next month for the 45th.  All will participate in the ritual when our "Book of Memories" is opened and we are reminded of our dearly departed.  Amidst the food, fun, and reflections, the Class of 1978 will pause to thank God for Marty and say a prayer for his family.

Thank you God for giving us Marty.

Marty was a good man. Love his sense of humor and caring for other people. Best Brother in Law, ever.  I will miss him coming over for supper. Many many happy, fun memories. Love, Hugs and prayers. ♥️🙏🏻

We’ve been friends of Marty and his family since he graduated from  High School and worked at McDonalds. It was always a pleasure when we met, although concerning to listen to his health concerns. Marty always had an upbeat attitude, we will miss him, he was a great person.

Rest in peace my friend, you are now in the care of your Loving Heavenly Friend Jesus.
