Millie was born in Norwich on May 10, 1915, the daughter of John and Daisy Reede Light. She was a 1934 graduate of the Oneonta High School and, on April 19, 1936 at the home of her mother in Oneonta, she married Cutler A. Burrell who passed away Sept. 28, 1998. At the time of her marriage Millie was employed as a hair dresser in the Oneonta area. Moving to Norwich in 1937, she and her husband quickly became well-known in the Norwich community. Millie’s husband, Cut, began his own business in the late 1930’s, Burrell’s Wheel and Brake Service. Millie soon became his bookkeeper, and also worked as a cashier for Victory Markets for a period of 21 years. In 1937, they became Charter Members of the Norwich Township Grange.
Following retirement, Millie and Cut became beloved members of the Hatch Lake Community in Madison County, where they would spend their summers and then winter in Florida. To this day, Millie still maintained the camp at Hatch Lake.
Millie is survived by The Honorable Clarence D. Rappleyea, whom they raised as their own, and his wife Nancy of Norwich, along with their children and several nieces and nephews.
At Millie’s request there will be no formal funeral service.
Arrangements are with the R. J. Fahy Funeral Home.
