Mrs. Cecilia M. "Cel" Macaulay Murphy

Cecilia M.(Macaulay) Murphy of Norwood, died Monday February 8, 2010 in the presence of her family. She was 93 years of age. Beloved wife of the late John J. Murphy; loving mother of Robert E. Murphy of Foxboro, Cecilia Maloof of Dover and Florida, Jean Turchan and John J. Murphy Jr., both of Norwood, Neil Murphy of Walpole, Elizabeth Hardy of Foxboro, and Patricia Murphy of Walpole; sister of the late Francis V. Macauley and Elizabeth Brady. Also survived by 18 grandchildren; John Robert & Michele Murphy, Richard & Robert Maloof, Lauren & Keith Turchan, Erin, Michael, and Kevin Murphy, Daniel, Matthew & Cecilia Hardy, Hannah, Emma, & Aidan, Murphy, Ryan & Cecilia Abely and Ricky Hollis. She also left many nieces and nephews and her sister-in-law Mary Macaulay of Norwood. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 13 at 8:00am from the Gillooly Funeral Home, 126 Walpole Street (Rte 1A), Norwood, then at 9:00am a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Catherine of Siena Church, 547 Washington Street, Norwood. Visiting hours will be held on Friday, February 12 from 4:00-8:00pm at the funeral home. Interment will be in Highland Cemetery, Norwood. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Cecilia’s name to the John J. and Cecilia M. Murphy Scholarship, c/o Norwood Scholarship Foundation, P.O. Box 112, Norwood, MA 02062. Cecilia was a 1934 graduate of Norwood High School. She enjoyed knitting and crocheting and always liked to watch a good Red Sox game. For many years Cel and her friends spent Thursday night playing whist at each others house. Snow, sleet, rain or hail would not interfere with their card game.
