

Helen Chicoine, loving mother, dedicated educator and community volunteer passed away on December 28 at the age of 94. She was born on October 1, 1929 in Medford MA, to William and Helen Hollis.
Helen was a strong willed, never give up, “don’t tell me what to do” kind of woman. With one child in college and five more still at home, she enrolled in college, studying nights and weekends, and earned her teaching degree from Fairly Dickenson University. She impacted the lives of thousands of children teaching fifth grade in Westwood for 28 years. An avid reader, Helen served on the Westwood Library, Board of Trustees. She also worked many years as a volunteer patient advocate, at Norwood Hospital.
Helen was preceded in death by her daughter Denise Chicoine. She is survived by five children: Triss Turner (Russ), Weymouth MA, Bill Chicoine (Kathy), Old Orchard Beach, ME, Mark Chicoine, Atlanta, GA, Michelle Tapsell (Charlie), Germantown, TN and Regina Haire (Frank), Plainville, MA. She is also survived by twelve grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren, one great-great grandchild and her sister Madelyn Barry, Lynnfield, MA.
Visitation in the Gillooly Funeral Home, 126 Walpole Street (Rt. 1A) NORWOOD on Saturday January 6, 2024 from 10 AM - 12 PM, followed immediately by a Celebration Of Life at 12 Noon.
