

NORTH ATTLEBORO - Helen M. Pierce, 95, of Peck Street and Life Care Center of Attleboro, also of Dennis Port, MA and formerly of N. Ft Myers, FL passed away peacefully Tuesday, November 17, 2015 at Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro, MA. She was the wife of the late Guy W. Pierce, who passed away in 2001.
Born January 5, 1920 in Hammond, NY, she was the daughter of the late Lawrence and Emma (McLear) More.
Helen grew up in Syracuse, NY and graduated from Central High School. A Fine Art Major, she was a 1942 graduate of Syracuse University and was a member of Chi Omega sorority.
A longtime resident of East Walpole, Dennis Port, and North Attleboro, MA and N. Ft. Myers, Florida; Helen cherished the family home on Bungay Lake.
Helen established the Art Department at Bellingham (MA) High School and was the Director of Art Education at the school for 22 years, retiring in 1987. She was a well-known professional artist and was active in all aspects of arts and crafts her entire life. Her artwork was displayed and showed throughout the country, such as Capron Parks "Art in the Park" and North Conway exhibits. She exhibited, and won recognition in the Queens Gallery in Lincolnshire, England and had a cultural exchange exhibition in Shanghai, China. She was a lifelong member of The Rhode Island Watercolor Society and was its President in 1977. Helen was also involved in the past with the North Attleboro Cultural (Arts) Council, having her work displayed in NA Town Hall. In retirement in N. Ft. Myers, FL, she was also active in art instruction and was an avid golfer.
She is survived by two daughters, Nancy Robinson and husband Bruce of North Attleboro and Patricia Froehlich of Warwick, RI; two grandsons: Shawn Pierce and Dana Carlson; three granddaughters: Kelly Battersby-Scott, Tonya Battersby and Desiree Markham; five great-grandchildren: Brystal, Alyssa, Chad, Kambria and Saul. She also leaves a dear brother, L. Russell More of Jamesville, NY and three nephews.
Helen was the mother of the late Cynthia Carlson and Lawrence Pierce, and the grandmother of the late West Pierce.
Visitation has been omitted. Graveside service will be held at 11 o’clock on Friday, December 4, 2015 at Knollwood Memorial Park, Canton, MA 02021.
