Joan M. Young Mercier

MERCIER, Joan M. (Young), 80, of Norwood, passed away, suddenly, March 17, 2015 at home. Born in Boston, she was the daughter of the late Peter and Katherine (Burke) Young. Joan was the beloved wife of the late Kenneth F. Mercier; the loving mother of Noreen Mercier of NH, Kenneth and his wife, Sheila of Mashpee and Linda and her husband, Paul Panetta of Norwood; the cherished grandmother of Paul, Joseph, and Mary Panetta, Eric Mercier and Benjamin Hudson; the dear sister of Anne Mandile of SC and the late Peter Young and Janet Riordan; and the aunt of many nieces and nephews. Joan worked as a bookkeeper for Barletta Co.in Norwood for many years until her retirement. She was an active member of St. Timothy Church, an avid reader, and loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, at Island Pond in Atkinson, NH. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 21, at 9:00 AM at the Gillooly Funeral Home, 126 Walpole St., NORWOOD, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM at St. Timothy Church, 650 Nichols St., Norwood. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery, Norwood. Visiting hours will be held on Friday, March 20, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
