With deep love and gratitude for a life beautifully lived, we remember a remarkable woman, Mildred "Mickie" June Scarlata, whose 89 years were defined by quiet strength, steady kindness, and a heart always open to others. Her family knew her as a loving supporter, a patient listener, grateful for all she had and a constant source of warmth.
Born December 5, 1936, in Boston, she was the daughter of Mildred (Sweeney) MacNeill and Archie MacNeill. She was the loving wife of Anthony C. Scarlata of 68 years, proud mother of the late Vincent Scarlata, Alan Scarlata and his partner, Laurie Pedzewick, Russell Scarlata and his wife, Kate Scarlata, and Brian Scarlata and his partner, Lisa Bowman; grandmother of five: Alexandra Scarlata, Nicholas Scarlata, Chelsea Scarlata, Kevin Scarlata and Brennan Scarlata and the delighted great-grandmother of Eleanor Grace Kuchenbrod, roles she cherished and that brought her pure joy beyond measure. She is survived by sisters Sally Petrucci and Edna Gately. She is predeceased by her siblings William MacNeill, Virginia MacNeil, and Barbara Cataldo.
Mickie was a helper in the truest sense of the word. If someone needed a ride to the grocery store, she was there. If a neighbor needed a hand, she offered hers without hesitation. If a family member needed support, she gave her time freely and without complaint. She didn’t seek recognition; she simply saw what needed to be done and did it. Service was not an obligation to her; it was a way of life.
Soft in voice yet strong in spirit, she carried herself with quiet resilience. She was pragmatic and sensible, approaching life with steady wisdom and grace. Her deep well of kindness touched everyone who knew her. She believed in showing up, in doing what was right, and in caring for others in ways both big and small.
Her legacy is not only in the family she raised and adored, but in the countless acts of goodness that ripple outward from a life spent helping others. She taught us that strength does not have to be loud, that love is best expressed through action, and that the simplest gestures can mean the most.
Though she will be deeply missed, her spirit lives on in the hands that now help others, in the patience we try to show, and in the love that continues to bind her family together. We are better because she was here.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend the Visiting Hours which will be held in the Gillooly Funeral Home, 126 Walpole Street (Rt. 1A) NORWOOD on Saturday February 28, from 9-11 AM, prior to the Funeral Service beginning at 11 o'clock. Interment at New Westwood Cemetery will follow the Service.
