Of Portland Maine and formerly of Norwood, passed away suddenly on Sunday April 16, 2023 at age 33.
Born in Newton, he was the loving son of Richard M. and Bernadette M. (MacDonald) Giacoppo. Nicholas was a 2008 graduate of Norwood High School and earned his bachelor's degree at Dean College. He had been working in Maine for the past several years in the electrical field.
Nicholas was the beloved husband of Virginia (Norton) Giacoppo of Portland, Maine. He was the devoted brother of Christopher Giacoppo of Norwood, and the late Richard C. Giacoppo. He was the grandson of Matthew M. Giacoppo of Burlington, the late Thelma M. Giacoppo, Mary B. ONeil of Norwood, and the late Henry A. MacDonald. Nicholas has many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Our son Nicholas, there are no words to express the depths of our love for you. From the time Nicholas was a small child he was loving in a way that brought us all together. His expressive lips, his glittering eyes and his kind soul was a gift to all that had the honor of knowing him.
As his mother I would get butterflies in my stomach each morning to pick him up from his crib, later from school, and many years later when he came home from Portland, Maine to visit home or our visits to him. We spoke everyday on the phone, sometimes several times a day. He was his Dad’s helper as a little boy with his little work gloves working in the yard with his dad. As a man, he would rub his Dad’s shoulders from the backseat as we drove around Portland and would give him directions to our next adventure. We visited Portland as often as we could, drinking coffee, he and I holding hands walking through the Old Port on Fridays that was his day off. We rail against the universe for this cruel loss of our beautiful free spirit.
As a child his brother Chris was his best buddy. They spent the summers jumping in and out of the pool with the other neighborhood kids, making lemonade stands, combing the woods together with their dog Jessie. Days were spent riding their bikes together using the bike jumps their Dad made for them. Nicholas always credited his brother Ricky with his love for music. Although there was a six year age difference they shared a deep love for one another. Ricky called Nicholas “Baby Bro”. Nicholas has missed his brother deeply and these words seem so trifle compared to the magnitude of our love and the unexplainable sorrow that we now face.
We don’t have any way of understanding how this could happen and how this can be real. We’re lost. We are truly lost. Our beloved Nicholas, our beautiful boy, our loving kind sweet boy. God help us.
Nicholas was married on June 12, 2021 to the love of his life Virginia. Officiated by his grandfather, they had a beautiful wedding; the day was perfect. Nicholas beamed with happiness as he and Virginia danced and embraced one another.
He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing, hiking, playing basketball and swimming. He loved taking his family on trips around Portland to the Eastern and Western Prom’s, MacWorth Island and the old fort on Peaks Island. Nicholas was a very creative person and had an incredible artistic talent for drawing. Nicholas’s artwork is proudly displayed throughout his apartment and our home. Nicholas was a chef from the time he was a young boy and cooked a creative meal every night for his wife Virginia. At home he cooked for everyone and took great pride in his special dishes.
How do we describe how our beloved son will be missed? A heart that is to be broken is not understood, only by the parents that are left to bear this incomprehensible heartbreak. God help us.
Funeral Services for Nicholas are private.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made by donations in his memory to Ricky, Inc.
