William H. May

MAY, William H. of Wrentham and formerly a resident of Norwood for over 50 years, passed away on Tuesday January 6, 2026. He was 97.   

Born in Boston, he was the son of the late William T. And Elizabeth J. (McAtamney) May. Bill was a graduate of Dorchester High School with the class of 1946.  After serving a term with the United States Air Force during the start of the Korean War, he worked for many years as an Insurance Underwriter.  William was a member of the Knights of Columbus in Dorchester Lower Mills.  He was a parishoner for over 40 years of St. Catherine of Siena Parish in Norwood, and was an active volunteer with the St. Vincent de Paul Society. Bill was well known as Santa Claus in Walpole Center for many years.   

Bill was the beloved husband of  62 years of the late Colleen M. (Creedon) May and the devoted father of Susan and her husband Doug Carlson of Clifton VA, the late Michael May and his widow Susan Lebbossiere of Braintree,  William “Willy” May of Salt Lake City UT, John May and his wife Laura of Foxboro, Marianne Walter and her fiancée Jerry McManus of Norwood,  and Christopher May of Wales Maine. He was the brother of the late Elizabeth May, Catherine Culpin, Marguerite Berg, and Evelyn Cunniff.  Bill was the proud grandfather of 9 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren and is survived by many nieces and nephews.    

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Catherine of Siena Parish, 547 Washington Street NORWOOD on Tuesday January 13th at 11 AM.  Interment at Highland Cemetery in Norwood will be private. Funeral arrangements are in the care of Gillooly Funeral Home, 126 Walpole Street, Norwood.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in Bill’s  memory to St. Vincent de Paul Society, St. Catherine of Siena Church, 547 Washington Street, Norwood Mass. 02062.
