Anna and her twin sister Loretta were born at home on August 25,1933 at 2729 Fait Ave., Baltimore, Md. They were two of the ten children born of the marriage of Henry & Catherine Aburn. From the beginning they were known as "the twins". Over the years however their brother Charlie convinced everyone that they were Siamese twins.. In the beginning Anna was called Anne or Annie. Loretta was called Retts. Their dad Henry was very strict. To the young people of today...when you feel that your dad is tough on you, forget about that. Henry took a picture of Annie and Loretta (Retts) and had it posted inside of the Arundel ice cream shop, a favorite hangout of teenagers at that time with a caption...DO NOT LET THESE GIRLS IN HERE.
As the years went by and as fate would have it, she met the man of her dreams, Fred Bish. They met at a dance on a "midnight cruise" one evening while aboard the "Bay Belle", an excursion ship which during the daytime ferried passengers across the Chesapeake bay to Betterton. From that moment on she knew he was the one.
On May 16th, 1953 they were joined in marriage at St Brigids Catholic church. . What a incredible journey they began....
They began the journey which included Anne holding several jobs. She worked with her sisters Mary and Retts at the "A&P" a local supermarket and as a switchboard operator at the Stanley Furniture Co with her sister Cele. It is not widely known but Anne also launched a career as a recording artist. She and her sister-in-law Helen would have dinner and go bowling once a week. One night Anne decided to send a record to Fred who was in the U.S. Army in Germany.. She wanted to let him know how much she missed him. The recording started out with her saying. "We are on Baltimore Street"... followed with her signature giggle she was known for. This career was short lived since Anne only made that one recording.
The next career would be a lifetime commitment as a Home Manager, Domestic engineer, and being a MOM... raising three children... Janine, Fred Jr, and Kimberly. Together Fred & Anne watched their children grow. During this time they also tried an adventure living in Orlando, Fl....until their first grandson came along. They both decided it was time to return to Maryland to be with family. Even though she had family in Florida and Georgia she needed to be with the children.
Anne & Fred have four grandchildren which they watched and shared in their lives as well. Becoming great-grandparents was an even bigger milestone in their lives. How blessed they are to have one great-great-granddaughter as well. They have had many years doing things they enjoy such as traveling to Hilton Head to join up with our southern family, and taking Caribbean cruises.
Everyone always enjoyed visiting Anne and Fred. A lot of family history was discussed and a lot of stories were told about days gone by during those visits. How ironic it is that Anne would leave us as the Christmas season is upon us, a time of Love and Giving. You would be hard
pressed to find someone more loving and giving than Anne.
A loving wife of 64 years...a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother and a truly loving wonderful aunt, sister-in-law, and friend to all of us...How blessed we are to have had her in our lives. We will surely miss and love her until we are together again
